There are multiple Buddhist excavations that have happened since 1906 in Bhavi Konda, Thotla Konda, Bojjana Konda, and Salihundam around Visakhapatnam.
The Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex, situated 15 - 16 kms from the Visakhapatnam City provides a nice view of the Bay of Bengal from an elevation of 128 mts. The Thotlakonda Complex has a number of Stupas, Chaityas, Viharas, a congregation hall and a refectrory belonging to the Himalayanas School. Sankaram village (45 km from Visakhapatnam) at Bojjanna Konda near Anakapalle is also a popular Buddhist heritage spot. The name of the village Sankaram derived from the word Sangharama which meant monastery. There are many monolithic stupas, rock cut caves, ruins of prayer halls, meditation halls in Bojjanna Konda.
Multiple monuments like Stupas and Chaityas have been excavated that are believed to be conserving corporal remnants of Buddha.
