Pampadum Shola National Park is the smallest national park in Kerala State of south India.The Pampadum Shola National Park was established in the year 2003 and is administered by the Kerala Department of Forests and Wildlife, Munnar Wildlife Division.The Government of Kerala declared it as a National Park in December 2004.It is Located in theDevikulam Taluk of Idukki district about 35 km from Munnar in Kerala state of south India. It is Scatter over an area of about of 1.32 sq km.The Park is located at the Elevation of about 1,886 meters from the sea level.
The name of the park “Pampadum Shola” means “the forest where the snake dances”, derived from three Tamil words such as “paamp which means “snake”, “aattam” which means “dance” and “cholai” which means “forest”. The forests inside the park form a good field laboratory for researchers and educationalists.The Pampadum Shola National Park trek is idealistic place for wildlife and bird fancier, photographers, naturalists and adventurers.The Superior time to visit the Pampadum Shola National Park in between the month of October and march.
The Pampadum National Park offers a wide range of habitat types to the flora and fauna.There are22 species of trees74 species of herbs and shrubs and 16 climbers were recorded from here.There are almost 9 species of mammals, 14 species of birds, 93 species of moths and 100 species of butterflies are habitat here.Tiger are an important animal of the park.The most important animals found in the Park are elephant, gaur, leopard, wild boar, sambar and common langur.
The evergreen trees and the water sources become the habitat of various birds and animals. There are Eco-tourism facilities in the park which include trekking and night camping. The clear blue sky, clean air, stretch of green hayfield, and thick Leaf swarming with flora and fauna makes it a dream terminus for tourists and visitors.
Some notable birds which are found here are the Nilgiri Wood-pigeon, White-bellied Shortwing, Scaly-breasted Lorikeet, Blue Rock-thrush, Blue-capped Rock-thrush and Nilgiri flycatcher, Black orange Flycatchers, Cormorants, Egrets, Nilgiri Wood-pigeon, Darters, White-bellied Shortwing and Pied kingfisher are found here.

By Train: The Aluva Railway Station is the nearest railway station located 160 km and Pollachi Railway Station located about 110 km in Tamil Nadu.Ernakulam railway station
By Bus: Pampadum Shola is nearly 35 Km from Munnar town and can be reached from Kochi about 135 Km and Kottayam about 148 Mk by Road. The Kochi – Kodaikanal highway passes through this National Park.
By Airport:Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport located about 170km and Coimbatore Airports which are located about 160 Km respectively.
